Dear Chantal

My name is Samuel Essery, and I am attending the Sterling Hall School. I have gone to Sterling Hall since the middle of grade four, before that I went to Crestwood Prep. I changed school in the middle of the year because I did'nt like the people that were around me. The reason Upper Canada College is my preferred school is because; I really like the IB program and I believe I can be a positive impact on the school.

The educational aspect of your school is what really grabs me and pulls me in. It has everything right for me; there is the right amount of arts mixed with the three “R’s.” The IB is the part of the school that really, really gets me exited to come to the school. It allows me to keep all my subjects balanced out and not to over power on one subject and than later learn that my strengths are in a different subject. IB also gives me the opportunity to venture off to university in a different country. I would like to go to university in the States or even overseas and IB is the thing that opens the door for that. I believe that I need to be challenged in a classroom environment, the IB does not just challenge it helps a student excel and that is the kind of education I need because I am a person taht needs to be challenged in order to stay focused.

I believe I will be a positive impact on the school because I have very creative ideas; I also work well with some of the boys that already go to your school. I have brought many positive things to the school that I am at now such as; I brought an environment/ recycling project to our school in grade four. I am the plumb house captain and it is my duty to promote spirit towards the house so this year I decided to bring a mascot to our house. I have also helped run food drives and I always help setup and run all spirit events especially the Terry Fox Run.

I believe that I am a well rounded person that can add a lot to the classroom and to the school. I know for sure that the IB program is right for me. It is structured, challenging and will keep my mind working. Those are the things that I believe will help me do better in school and in life. I am determined that Upper Canada College is the school for me and I would be so excited if I got accepted.
